The Broken Mirror
This is a poem we did in Creative Writing which is a rewrite of a poem, that unfortunately I don’t remember the name of. But basically we had to incorporate the names of the Bee Gee’s and the names of Bee Gee’s songs, as a funny exercise and to just get us to have a laugh. Unfortunately everyone’s turned out pretty much the same so I adapted mine even further and bent the rules a little, but I think I was left with a much stronger poem.
“A break up is like a broken mirror. It is better to leave it broken than hurt yourself trying to fix it.”

I am afraid of staying alive.
In this fever of broken hearts and absence.
They move slowly, banishing sound from the world.
The contours of their face.
Rough love after dusk
The tragedy of their broken lips and cracked porcelain faces.
My eyes meet them in a dream, and I find myself dancing.
How I miss the Island.
In trees, in daylight.
In the furnace.
And so I became more than a man.
And with the last one leaving, rising with the sun,
I believe that there is one stream to save me now.
And your love wins again.
